Tesla plans to set up a second factory in Shanghai

 

If Tesla's second plant with an annual capacity of 450000 vehicles is built in Shanghai, it means that Tesla's total capacity in China is expected to exceed 1 million. At that time, Shanghai will also become Tesla's largest automobile export center in the world. Affected by the COVID-19 in Shanghai, Tesla Shanghai Super factory was shut down for 22 days, resulting in a reduction in the production of nearly 50000 vehicles. However, with the support of the local government in Shanghai, it resumed construction on April 19. Therefore, Tesla sent a "letter of thanks" to the government of Shanghai Port Special Administrative Region.

 

In the letter, Tesla thanked the local government for its efforts to help restart Tesla's Shanghai Super factory. In addition, it is noteworthy that Tesla also disclosed in the thank-you letter that it will further expand its production capacity in Shanghai and plans to build a new plant near the current plant, which is expected to increase the annual production capacity of 450000 vehicles, including model 3 and model y. However, up to now, Tesla officials have not yet made a clear response to "Tesla's second factory in Shanghai".
